Our Mission
Our mission is to give individuals the skill and understanding of data science so they can make a difference in their communities. We want to help support and sustain an ecosystem that will lead to better lives for individuals, industries and institutions using data and analytics.
It is our strong belief that for better decision-making, data usage should be combined with social and environmental impact assessments together with analytical insights. Our Objectives
The Key Objectives for DSA's Mission
Promote the awareness and study of data science in schools and higher educational institutions and to promote ethical practices in data science at all levels.
Hold conferences meetings, seminars, roundtables, colloquiums, forums etc. to discuss data science.
Create a repository for data including Open Data. Publish journals and newsletters.
Design, develop and offer educational and training programmes to educational institutions, data professionals and the public.
The History
The Persatuan Sains Data (Data Science
Association) is the initiative of a group of senior academics and professionals from Malaysia and overseas. They share a common belief that data skills -the ability to extract data, to understand it, to process it, to extract value from it, to visualize it and to communicate it—are essential skills in decision making processes in every area of human endeavour.
The Association is registered as a society under the Societies Act 1966, Malaysia. The Association aspires to create a community of professionals who are interested in the application, study and development of data science in Malaysia and the region.
Membership is directed at professionals, students, researchers, academics and others who have a deep interest in data science and related technologies and practices.
The Registrar of Societies, Malaysia approved the registration of the association on 20 December 2017.
Our Scope
We adopt a broad and inclusive definition of Data science, (or data-driven science or datalogy), as an interdisciplinary field about scientific methods, processes and systems that are applied to extract knowledge or insights from data in various forms, either structured or unstructured and covers areas such as machine learning, computational statistics, Data Mining, Predictive Analytics, and other emerging related fields of study.
In essence, our comprehensive approach to Data Science enables us to effectively harness data in all its forms, driving innovation and discovery across multiple domains.
This holistic perspective not only advances our understanding of data but also empowers us to solve complex problems and create value in an increasingly data-driven world.
